Why the Zwartkop Golf Management Campus?

When choosing the best place for your child to go, there is only one place to consider – the Golf Management Campus. We are based at Zwartkop Country Club where we have all the facilities on site to equip your child with the tools needed for his/her future in the golf industry. We have the best lecturers and coaches, a range of regular expert guest lecturers; a support team of psychologists and fitness specialists and we are able to offer on-the-job practical work experience in an operating golf club facility. In addition, we are the best positioned to assist our students in finding employment in their chosen field within the industry on completition of their studies.

What does the Zwartkop Golf Management Campus offer?

We are proud to say that we offer a one-stop-service where all the facilities that are needed, can be found on our Campus.

These include the following:

• Lectures and Practical Work Experience:

All lectures take place on-site. Students get to put their lectures into practice by working in all areas of a working golf club – golf shop, corporate golf; greenkeeping, food and beverage etc. so they get to learn first-hand about the golf trade and the job opportunites it affords.

• Golf course:

A 9-hole golf course, played twice for 18-holes & soon to be upgraded with added greens and tees to add variety for the two 9-hole loops.  Golf will be tested at all skill levels. Every cycle we play an “away” round at a course in and around the Pretoria / Johannesburg area.

• Driving Range:

One of a few grass ranges in Pretoria, with quality practice balls; clearly marked distances and friendly staff to help and accommodate the students. Exciting additions are coming, including a state-of-the-art Top Tracer Range, plus the expansion of the Range facility to three times its current size – and much longer!

• Short game facilities:

We have a dedicated short-game practice area with a putting, chipping & bunker practice area.

• Gym:

Programmes are worked out for the students to work on weak areas in the body as well as general fitness improvement to help students reach their golfing potential.

• Hair & Beauty Salon and other facilities:

We have a fully equipped hair and beauty salon on site which students will have access to. A new deli is being added for additional meal access, as well as a children’s playground

• Accommodation:

We have contact information for providers offering student accommodation on site, within the secure Zwartkop Golf Estate. This makes for a good option for any students from out of town, as all our facilities are within the golf estate and within easy walking distance of eachother.

In addition we have a library of golf books which the students will have access to and a restaurant should they wish to purchase meals.

What does the PGA Diploma Course provide?

It provides the students with the tools needed to take on all the challenges in the golf industry. The PGA course covers all aspects of the industry from playing the game through to running a successful business of your own.

What are the admission requirements for the Golf Management Campus?

Students need to have passed grade 12 as an academic requirement and must also have an official handicap of 18 for men and 24 for ladies.

What kind of qualification will I earn?

A National Diploma in Club Professional Golfing will be earned from the PGA of SA.

Do you have on-site student housing?

How does a typical week at the Campus work?

Students have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and golf is played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every day, focus is placed on the different aspects of golf, from gym and fitness, to the finer aspects of golf such as the short and long game. Group coaching is done once a week and students get one lesson a week which has to be booked with his / her coach.

How soon after studying can I be employed in the Golf Industry?

Students are required to complete a minimum of 2000 hours of practical training before they can qualify as a Full PGA Professional. Students may complete 1000 of these practical hours while they are studying the 3-year Diploma. Students that obtain a 65% average or higher, are required to complete the minimum required practical hours, while students with lower averages may have to complete more hours to ensure they are qualified enough to earn their PGA status. It is therefore in your interest to work hard, to achieve the highest academic results possible which will allow you quicker access to the job of a lifetime.

In addition to the practical hours, students must achieve 4 scores of 5-over par or better and must also complete the Teaching Practical test in order to graduate to become a fully qualified PGA professional.

 Does the PGA course influence my amateur status?

No. While studying at the Golf Management Campus you are still an amateur golfer and can compete in amateur tournaments. You do not lose your amateur status until you start your apprenticeship after your three years of study (so, you need to have completed the diploma).

What is the duration of the course?

The PGA qualification (National Diploma in Club Professional Golfing) runs over 3 years. We also have a full-time Game Improvement Programme for the students who want to focus more on playing the game with an eye on playing on the Tour. The Game Improvement Programme does not cover the PGA subjects as it is done on a year-to-year basis.

 Do I have what it takes?

 What type of companies might employ me after my studies?

Golf Clubs and Residential Estates, Golf Practise Facilities; Manufacturers and Suppliers within the industry, Schools (coaching), Golf Tour Operators, Governing Bodies and associated companies, Event Managers…the list goes on and on…

What extras can we expect?

Students have access to the internet for research during classes and easy access to all their practical golf and fitness statistics gathered on a weekly basis. They will have access to free WIFI on the Campus property.

We use Flightscope for the very best in Golf Swing Analysis and Golf Statistics Analysis.

Students are issued with high-quality kit of clothing at the start of the year.

They will have a team of staff on hand that goes the extra mile to ensure their growth and success through the programme. Dale Hayes, a doyen within the golf industry is actively involved in lecturing and mentoring our students, sharing his knowledge and experiences with the students as well as using his influence to get other great names in the industry to come along and guest lecture.

The Golf Management Campus falls under the auspices of Zwartkop Country Club which is committed to complying to both POPIA “The Protection of Personal Information Act No 4 of 2013” and PAIA “The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000”.
